Angel Food Oakland

If you eat, you qualify!
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. They work through community organizations and churches to provide over $60 worth of groceries for just $30.
How it works:
Angel Food Ministries bids on foods directly from the manufacturer as all supermarket chains do. All the food is top shelf quality, not damaged or out dated. Some of the food is name brand and some is packaged specifically for Angel Food.
Angel Food then distributes the food to certain pick-up locations all around the country. On distribution day, each Host Site goes to their pick-up location, fills their orders, and returns to the Host Site where you can come and pick up the food you ordered. The savings come to you because all the labor is volunteered.
By providing the Angel Food opportunity, we hope to help families and college students in our community reduce their monthly food expense while maintaining or even increasing the quality of food they purchase. There is no low income requirement. Anyone can benefit. As Jo Ann Snow our Angel Food coordinator likes to say, "if you eat, you qualify."
Each box of food costs you only $30, but on average contains over $60 worth of quality fresh and frozen food. Each month’s menu also offers specials that can be purchased in addition to the main menu. There is no limit to the number of boxes you can order. Many people purchase boxes for others they know have a need. Each month the menu and specials change to offer variety.
How to get it:
Just go to Friendship Community Presbyterian Church located at 181 Robinson Street in Oakland at one of the specified order times (see Menus page), fill out an order form and pay for your order with cash, money order or food stamps. Then on Distribution Day come back at the specified time to Friendship with your receipt and a box or cooler to pick up your food. That’s it!
Inspired by an Angel Food Ministry site she visited in New Brighton back in June ‘06, Jo Ann Snow put things in motion to start an Angel Food host site in Oakland with the help of her then church family, New Hope Christian Community. It has been over a year now and JoAnn and Angel Food in Oakland are still going strong and looking to improve their service to the community in the coming year. To check the current menus or find info on how to order food, please go to the Menus page. If you would like to help with this ministry, please click here to email Jo Ann.
